Unarchived Documentary Spotlights Historical Erasure and Grassroots Efforts to Preserve Marginalized Histories

Kamloops – Heritage Inclusion Network is pleased to announce its sponsorship for the documentary “Unarchived,” directed by Hayley Grey and Elad Tzadok, which focuses light on the systemic neglect of underrepresented people’ history in British Columbia. The video emphasizes the value of representation, belonging, and presence via case studies that highlight gaps in the province’s written history.
“Unarchived” explores the unseen tales of LGBTQ+ people, South Asian and East Asian groups, and First Nations peoples, whose histories have been mostly ignored or deleted from official archives. The documentary highlights grassroots initiatives to preserve these history via dramatic storytelling and historical material, emphasizing that all communities have the right to have their experiences acknowledged and maintained.
The video focuses on the work of people such as Ron Dutton, Dr. Aaron Devor, Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains, and Sandra Marion, who have committed themselves to developing personal archives and digital repositories to guarantee that their communities’ legacy are preserved.
